Progress Review - April 2008

I’m pretty happy with the progress I made on my goals this month. Though my subscriber count didn’t grow as quickly as I would have liked, I’ve got some interesting developments going on.

April Goals

1. Add 50 more subscribers

The number of people subscribed to my RSS feed continued to grow this month, but adding only fifteen new subscribers didn’t get me that close to reaching my goal. I still believe that this goal is highly achievable. I just didn’t focus my efforts on this as much as I should have.

I will renew this goal for next month.

2. Write 4 (or 6?) guest posts

I did succeed in writing four guest posts this month. The problem was that I wrote them all at the very end of the month, when they couldn’t really contribute to helping out with April’s goal for new RSS subscribers. However, I think they probably will help me with achieving it in May.

This month I would like to up my guest posts to five.

3. Further investigate my course idea, and if it seems feasible, create content for two sections.

I did quite a bit of further investigation, and though I haven’t done the primary content creation yet, I have a substantial outline. I’ve also been working on the development of the overall course delivery mechanism. I count this a success because the amount of work that I’ve done is roughly equivalent.

My (pretty ambitious) goal is to have completed at least half of the course materials by the end of the month, and my stretch goal is to complete all of it.

Goals for May

  • Add 50 new subscribers
  • Write 5 new guest posts
  • Create at least 1/2 of the course materials by the end of the month

Lessons Learned

Remember the lag time between an action and a result.

Writing guest posts earlier in the month not only would have saved me a bit of stress at the end, but would have been much more likely to help out with subscriber statistics. I estimate an average of two weeks lag time between submitting a guest post and seeing it go up (though this obviously depends on the particular blog.)

What lessons have you learned in the past month?
