Free Shopify Theme: Black and Blue

Feel like the existing Shopify themes just aren’t what you’re looking for? Here’s a new one for you. It’s called Black and Blue.

After having experimented with Shopify for a while, I decided that I wanted to design a theme for it to gain more understanding of the way that Shopify customization works. I must say that I’m extremely impressed with Shopify’s theming system. It gives designers enough control, but not so much that it is overwhelming.

You can see the Black & Blue theme in action at joshuastestsite.myshopify.com. Here are the only conditions for its use.

  • This theme (Black & Blue) is provided free of charge and may be used for any website, commercial or otherwise, but it may not be sold.
  • Any site using this theme must credit the original designer (for instance, “Black & Blue theme designed by Joshua Clanton”) and include a link to his website at www.joshuaclanton.com unless the express written permission of the designer is obtained. (You can move the link to someplace other than the footer if you would like, though.)

What are you waiting for? Download Black & Blue.

For bug reports, comment below, or contact me. Need something beyond a pre-made theme? I also offer design and coding for custom Shopify themes.

Credit: much of the HTML & Liquid is derived from the Ripen theme.

How is Shopify compared to ASPdotnetstorefront?

Unfortunately, I can’t say for sure, since I’m not familiar with AspDotNetStorefront’s system. However, from a brief glance, it appears that Shopify would be much more user friendly for a small online store, but doesn’t have all the big business features. Instead it focuses on being a simple product that does one thing very well. It is also a hosted service, so you can’t install it on your own server. (Personally I prefer that.)

    I hope that helps!
